Platinum Eskies

About Us

Charity and Jamel HamkaCharity and Jamel Hamka live just outside of Roanoke, Virginia on a beautiful 7+ acre mini-farm which they moved into on June 13, 2009. A completely fenced in 1 acre, 2 acre and 2.5 acre pastures gives the dogs plenty of running space. On the other hand, the eskies prefer to be inside most of the time. Jamel and Charity have been married for six years and have no children presently. Charity stays at home and cares for the dogs while Jamel works full-time as an Assistant Pastor at Fellowship Baptist Church. He works with the music and the youth specifically.

Six years ago we decided we would like to make a doggy addition to our home, and went hunting for the perfect dog.  We fell in love with a little white furball, and when we brought her home, Daisy was the center of attention.  As we worked with her and played with her, we were amazed at the breed attributes displayed.  She far exceeded our expectations.  We decided that this was a breed that should be enjoyed by more, and added to our little family Jehu (our male), and Sesi (our second female).

Our Distinctives

What sets Platinum Eskies apart?

First of all, we ensure your puppy’s good health.  It starts before your puppy is ever conceived, providing proper diet and exercise to the parents.  Throughout the pregnancy, the dam is monitored to ensure she and the puppies are progressing well. In addition to this she is provided with additional nutritional supplements and exercise.  We are there, assisting with every birth during whelping, and take every pain to ensure that each puppy comes through the critical first twenty-four hours in good health.  Each puppy is then taken to the veterinarian for a check-up (along with the dam), and dewclawed.  Dewclawing is a simple procedure in which the side claws of the front legs are removed, preventing painful and expensive accidents in the future.  Each puppy is carefully monitored throughout their time with us, and weaned on premium puppy food and given NuVet Plus every day.  By the time it leaves us, it will have had its first set of shots and a final check up from the veterinarian.

Puppy SleepingSecondly, we employ every possible measure to form good emotional health in each puppy.  We consider each of our dogs a member of the family.  We treat the puppies no differently.  From day one, the puppies are in our home, being handled, played with and loved on every single day.  Someone is home the majority of the time, making sure the pups are well cared for, and interacting with them throughout the day.  Unlike kennels that produce dozens of litters every year, we have only 2-3, giving us adequate time and space in our home to care for the puppies as they should be cared for.  The American Eskimo is one of the most delightful breeds we have ever encountered, but as with many breeds, if the puppies are not properly socialized, over aggressiveness, excessive shyness and submissive urination (wetting when excited or fearful) are often the result.   Due to the number of puppies produced, owners and operators of kennels and pet stores generally do not have the resources to properly socialize the puppies, and as a result, those that purchase puppies from these places often face the challenge of dealing with these emotional issues.

Thirdly, we put the puppy’s welfare foremost.  We are determined that our puppies should belong to a family that loves it and is committed to its well-being.  We screen buyers through our questionnaire and our conversations with them.

Puppy on pianoFourthly, we make every effort to make your experience of purchasing a puppy a smooth and enjoyable process.   Each puppy comes with the UKC registPersonalized Training Manualration paperwork, a health examination by our vet, a one-year genetic health warranty, a personalized puppy training manual (Example to the Right), a personalized CD with all of your puppies pictures from birth until pick up, a toy they have played with, NuVet starter kit, and an Eukanuba puppy pack containing valuable information and a bag of their food.

Our goal at every point in the process is excellence, and we are committed to sharing a delightful breed with others, and providing wonderful homes for our pups.
